OPENING QUESTION:

Please list our BIG 5 items that human beings MUST have to survive & thrive on Mars

LEARNING GOAL: I will work with my group to make a MINDMAP to connect each of our BIG 5 ideas to the OTHER BIG 5 ideas to show how interconnected they are during today's class.

Please grab a table-sized sheet of butcher paper from the rolls: You know the drill!

Please also grab 5 different color pens from the box on the counter over by Captain Kirk or from our general supplies table in the back (they should be our usual colors red-blue-orange-green-red + one other color you choose.

Now please appoint/volunteer a project manager to oversee today's work--- also, if any group has two or few people, please redistribute your to other groups if possible, but keep group size to four (that would be 4).

Make sure to write in your own color so be sure and check the tub for color pencils. You'll probably need to grab a 5th color pencil to match the color pen you got just a moment ago.

Now let's start the work!

Please use a ruler or straight-edge to draw 5 boxes on your paper - they can be in any configuration you like. Keep in mind (as we discussed yesterday) we're going to be drawing and labeling lines-of-connection between those so that might impact your choice for where to draw your squares --- please discuss FIRST.

WITHOUT checking the internet, please draw lines that show how each our Big 5 items rely on other Big 5 items.

You'll need to label those as follows (someone along the line, probably not too close to any of our 5 boxes since that might get a bit crowded):

"Item #1 required for <some verb> Item #2"

or

"Item #1 used to <some verb> Item #2"

For example:

Water used to grow food

(water is the first BIG 5 item, food is the second BIG 5 item and grow is the verb)

IMPORTANT - your lines and notes should be drawn using the SAME color as the box the line started from.

So in this example, let's say that the Big Item "FOOD" is in a box that is colored BLUE. All lines/labels coming from the FOOD box will be blue.
